Drone use will not be permitted in Independence Square during the January 7 swearing-in event for incoming President John Dramani Mahama, according to a Ministry of National Security statement.
All types of operational drones were impacted by the prohibition, according to a press release issued on Thursday.
It noted that the goal was to ensure the safety and security of all visitors and attendees who would swarm the grounds to watch the swearing-in of the ninth president under the Fourth Republic.
“The Ministry of National Security announces a directive prohibiting the operation of drones at the presidential inaugural ceremony on 7th January 2025.
“The Ministry forbids the operation of drones at the Black Star Square and its surrounding areas during the ceremony. This restriction applies to all types of drones, including recreational and commercial ones.
“During the inauguration ceremony, this directive seeks to ensure the safety and security of visiting guests, dignitaries and the public,” The statement, which was partially read, was signed by Lily Fati Soale, the Ministry’s chief director.
The instruction is a component of the government’s overall plan to ensure a successful inauguration of the president.
The Tourism Ministry declared last week that Independence Square and the surrounding area will be off-limits to visitors and the general public from midnight on December 31, 2024, to January 8, 2025.
