Ghanaians have been exhorted by President John Dramani Mahama to hold themselves and other public servants to the highest standards of integrity and honesty.
President Mahama stressed during his remarks at the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service in Accra on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, that serving the people, especially the most vulnerable, is a holy duty and that being a leader is not a privilege for personal benefit.
“Public office is not above the law. Even the Office of the President, which by the grace of God I now hold, must be grounded in justice, honesty, and reverence for God,” he said.
All citizens were urged by the president to demand that leaders be held accountable and to conduct moral lifestyles. He asserted that qualities like bravery, honesty, discipline, sacrifice, and compassion—rather than structures or financial resources—are what make Ghana truly great.
“A nation becomes great through the character of its people. If we want a just Ghana, we must have just leadership,” he stated.
The church and Christian leaders were also commended by President Mahama for their ongoing prayers and leadership. He praised a number of denominations for serving as moral pillars for the country, including the Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, the Christian Council of Ghana, and the Catholic Bishops Conference.
The State House forecourt served as the venue for the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving.
