Ghanaians should keep an eye out for the New Patriotic Front, a new political party that is expected to break away from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), according to Dr. Amoako Baah, a political scientist and member of the NPP.

The Political Scientist stated in an exclusive interview with Alfred Ocansey on April 14 that the failure of the party’s current leadership has made the creation of this party imperative.

“We want to fix the party, but those involved in the wrongdoing are the ones in charge. Do you think they will willingly give you a chance to throw them out? No, they won’t. leave the party for them and form a new one. The shortest way around this thing is to form a new party,” he revealed.

According to media reports attributed to several prominent NPP members, Dr. Amoako Baah was responding to claims that the party lost the December 2024 elections because “Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was the wrong candidate.”

In response to this claim, Dr. Amoako Baah criticized the NPP’s leadership, especially former President Akufo-Addo, for the party’s crushing defeat in the 2024 elections.

“It should be put on his head. He became very unpopular. He became arrogant,” he said.

He claimed that within the party, the former president was free to do as he pleased thanks to the party chairman. He also threatened members of his own party, particularly the Members of Parliament.

“I would have kicked him out of the party if I had been the chairman. Because no president ought to have the authority to act in this manner. No, run a campaign against members of your own party. He asked, “Does the party belong to him?”

According to him, joining the New Patriotic Front is the only option for NPP supporters to get around the party’s leaders and make a difference.

“All NPP supporters should join the new party that is coming up, New Patriotic Front. When it comes out, join. That will be the real party. The old one should be left for the corrupt leaders,” the Political Scientist said.

According to Dr. Baah, the issues involving the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) demonstrate the NPP’s lack of leadership.

“The old party was corrupt and incompetent. “Observe what is occurring in ECG,” he said.

In addition to uneven power distribution, the ECG has experienced procurement scandals, such as the 1,300 “missing” containers that the firm owned.

Additionally, he said that the administration of Nana Akufo-Addo created new cedi notes in an attempt to have some cash on hand to pay the government’s creditors.
