Leading the party’s reconciliation efforts from within is Ambassador Edward Boateng, who is the head of the Ashanti Region Reconciliation Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The committee was inspired by a memo from Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary of the NPP, to outline important goals at its first meeting on February 8, 2024.
The committee, which is committed to attaining clear leadership and a clear vision, emphasizes inclusive dialogue and stakeholder engagement and takes its cues from Nelson Mandela’s strategy in South Africa and the success of the Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland.
Acknowledging past mistakes, involving resentful candidates in policy formulation, launching a public relations campaign, and establishing mechanisms for ongoing dialogue are some of the strategies aimed at achieving transparency and accountability, which are crucial elements that the party learned from its 2016 reconciliation process.
The committee hopes to lead the party through a period of introspection and rejuvenation by achieving goals like restoring trust, enhancing the party’s reputation, and promoting unity.
The committee was established on February 2, 2024, and its members—which include well-known individuals like Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu and H.E. Edward Boateng—form a diverse group dedicated to leading the party toward a future that is driven by unity and vision.
A subcommittee has been established to create a thorough working plan for the activities of the committee.
