Prof. Kobby Mensah of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) has attacked politicians whose technique of winning elections to become a flag bearer for their political party is bribing delegates.

The Associate Professor of Political Marketing of UG observes some candidates seeking to lead the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a flag bearer ahead of the party’s presidential primaries on November 4, 2023, are bent on buying votes.

Prof. Mensah, the Senior Lecturer, who spoke to the media days before the NPP presidential primaries, describes the practice as ‘corrupt and appalling’.

“It looks like our politicians have succeeded in corrupting the entire system where people are looking at goodies, physical distribution of money, etc. as a basis for choosing a candidate, which is very appalling”, he pointed out while calling, especially, NPP delegates to make an informed choice in selecting a flag bearer for the next polls.

“So there is room for that message to be passed on to that indeed the selection of a flag bearer is for the bigger competition and to tout their credibility and credentials as fitting to win that contest” state-owned Ghana News Agency (GNA) quoted outspoken Prof. Kobby Mensah.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a presidential hopeful, has responded for the first time to what he described as lies being circulated by his closest contender, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong in the NPP presidential race

During his address to delegates during his recent tour of the Northern region, Dr. Bawumia expressed his disappointment in the tactics being employed by his opponents.

He stated, “We’re about to make history in our party and history in this country. Unfortunately, due to the Super Delegates’ results, many of our opponents are becoming desperate and are foreseeing defeat on November 4. As a result, they have resorted to spreading lies and sowing disunity amongst us.”

Dr. Bawumia challenged the false claims currently circulating about him, specifically addressing three major lies. Firstly, he refuted the accusation that he gave all 275 constituency chairmen GHS100,000 and a pickup truck.
