Francis Addai-Nimoh, a former representative for the Mampong Constituency, has publicly declared his desire to run for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership when nominations are accepted.

The former lawmaker said that early analysis carried out by his staff, together with counsel from certain party elders, pushed him to come on board his expert knowledge and ideals to preserve political power.

This occurred during a ceremony on February 1, 2023, in Osu Presby Hall.

“I am humbled that my astute team has assessed my qualifications and motivations using some three criteria. Driven by my personal convictions, I am confident that my professional background and values can be useful in shaping the necessary initiatives that will significantly improve our country coupled with the clarion call I have been receiving over these last years from our party members, rank and file and from wide consultations with elders of the party, I, Addai-Nimoh, I have thereby decided and officially announced my candidacy to be elected as the next flagbearer of the NPP.”

In 2014, the candidate ran in the NPP’s presidential primary but was unsuccessful.

Mr. Addai-Nimoh, who was born on March 23, 1965, served as the Ashanti Region’s representative for the Mampong Constituency from January 7, 2009, to January 6, 2017.

He ran for re-election in the NPP’s parliamentary primary in 2015 but lost after losing the race to be the party’s flagbearer in 2014 as well.

Mr. Addai-Nimoh joins the list of people who have made their intentions known, including Ketan Essikado, a member of parliament; Joe Ghartey, a former trade minister; Alan Kyerematen, a former minister of agriculture; Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former general secretary; and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, among others.
