NPP mourns John Kumah; directs party flags to fly at half-mast for seven days

The unexpected passing of Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, the deputy minister of finance, has shocked the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

When the terrible news of the death of Dr. John Kumah, the deputy finance minister and MP for Ejisu, reached the public, Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin paused the session.

The house was in session when the news arrived, bringing a gloomy atmosphere to the room.

Parliament has been greatly impacted by the abrupt death of the deputy finance minister; Mrs. Abena Osei-Asare, the deputy finance minister and MP for Atiwa East, sobbed excessively when she learned of the news.

Dr. John Kumah traveled to Germany for medical care after struggling with an unidentified ailment for long time.

The NPP said in a statement that all flags will fly at half-mast for seven days as a show of respect for him.

“Even before his ascension to national political limelight, Hon. Kumah showed signs of leadership in his teenage years as he was elected School Prefect for the Opoku Ware School

“He was an energetic party stalwart whose relentless activism was instrumental in the formation of Young Patriots, a youth group that championed the cause of the party from 2009 to 2016,” the General Secretary of the party disclosed in a statement.
