Nominations for the parliamentary primary election have opened for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Sunyani East.
Nominations must be submitted by Saturday, February 17, 2024; the application process will begin on Wednesday, February 14.
According to a statement signed by the party’s general secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, aspirant parliamentary candidates (APCs) must obtain nomination forms from the NPP National Headquarters in Accra after paying a non-refundable application fee of GHC 3,000 in Bankers Draft and a non-refundable filing fee of GHC 35,000 in Bankers Draft.
However, candidates for higher political office who identify as women, youth, or people with disabilities (PWDs) will be eligible for a 50% reimbursement of their filing fees.
They will be required to pay GHC17,500, which is non-refundable. The applicants who are considered youths are those who are between the ages of 18 and 40. The reduced cost is for them.
The announcement stipulated that in addition to filing fees, all prospective parliamentary candidates aside from the incumbent member of parliament (MP) would be required to pay a Party Development Fee of GHC 40,000.
