The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership has sent out a directive requiring all of its candidates for parliament to spend a “minimum of four days per week” in their respective constituencies in order to bolster their campaigning in the run up to the general elections that are scheduled for December 7.
In Friday, October 4, the party noticed that several candidates running for parliament are not regularly present in their constituencies, as stated in a news release sent by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong.
There are worries about how the party’s success in the next presidential and parliamentary elections may be affected by this lack of involvement, the statement reads.
“You should know that this lack of engagement would significantly affect our electoral fortunes in both presidential and parliamentary elections,” part of the statement read.
Given this, the party has given the issue careful thought and anticipates that every candidate running for office in parliament will make time to interact with voters.
Additionally, the party has given regional campaign teams instructions to keep an eye on and report the candidates’ activities.
