The filing deadlines and nomination periods for candidates running for parliamentary seats in the upcoming general elections of 2024 have been announced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

A non-refundable filing fee of thirty-five thousand Ghanaian cedis (GHC35,000) will be demanded of prospective parliamentary candidates, the party said.

Women, people with disabilities, and young people (18–40 years old) will receive a fifty percent (50%) refund on the filing fee, though.

Besides the filing fee, candidates must also pay a forty thousand Ghana cedis (GHC40,000) non-refundable development fee.

Only three thousand Ghanaian cedis (GH3,000) will be required to purchase nomination forms.

The party said nominations for parliamentary candidates will open on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, and close on Monday, December 25, 2023, in a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong.

No prospective candidate will be refused access to the nomination forms, the party has stressed.

Aspiring candidates can purchase nomination forms from the regional secretariat if they are not allowed to obtain them at the constituency level.

The forms can be downloaded from the party website (www.newpatrioticparty.org) if they are also rejected at the regional level.

Forms printed from the party website must be turned in to the National Secretariat of the Party’s General Secretary.
Interested candidates who downloaded nomination forms from the website are required to substantiate their claim that they were excluded from the constituency and regional forms sales.

On Saturday, January 27, 2024, the Extraordinary Constituency Delegates’ Conference is set to take place in order to elect parliamentary candidates.

The NPP has reaffirmed its dedication to holding transparent, equitable, and free parliamentary primaries. The party is proceeding with the nomination process with the cooperation of all relevant parties.
