On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said that it would deliver what it refers to as the “True State of the Nation Address.”
The action is a reaction to President John Dramani Mahama’s February 27, 2025, State of the Nation Address (SONA), which the NPP says misrepresented Ghana’s current situation and neglected to address important national issues.
The NPP attacked the President’s speech in a statement on February 28, saying it did not provide a thorough and honest analysis of Ghana’s social and economic problems since Mahama took office on January 7, 2025.
The party outlined a number of important issues that it says were disregarded, such as:
deteriorating power source growing security threats an increase in illicit mining operations an intensifying crisis in employment
“In light of this, the NPP, through its leadership in Parliament, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, will present the True State of the Nation Address to offer Ghanaians a factual and objective account of the nation’s condition,” the statement read.
The “True State of the Nation Address” is expected to provide the NPP’s perspective on governance, economic performance, and national security under President Mahama’s administration.
