The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said that it will protest the Ghana Police Service’s “state-sponsored harassment” of its members by holding a demonstration on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
On Friday, September 12, Salam Mustapha, the party’s National Youth Organiser, announced the decision on Facebook.
Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, was remanded after the protest. On the grounds of “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace,” he was taken into custody on Monday, September 8.
Later, an Accra Circuit Court mandated that he be held for two weeks in order to conduct additional investigations.
In response, Salam Mustapha declared: “The National Youth Wing will hold a demonstration against the state-sponsored police harassment on Tuesday, September 23.”

Many NPP supporters are anticipated to attend the demonstration, especially those from the youth wing, who are adamant about opposing what they characterize as politically motivated acts by state institutions.
The party is battling additional legal issues in addition to Abronye’s case.
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman, is presently being investigated for alleged money laundering, fraud, and financial damage to the state.
In recent weeks, a number of additional NPP affiliates have also been taken into custody in relation to different incidents.
