The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged its supporters who backed former Flagbearer candidate Alan Kyerematen to keep backing the NPP in order for it to triumph in the future general election in 2024.

“To all party faithful who were hitherto supporting Mr Alan Kyerematen by virtue of his membership of the party, though it is disappointing and distressing, we urge you to continue supporting the party in us to break the 8. Together we shall overcome challenges and together we shall achieve success.

“We implore all party members to continue to be devoted, committed, and steadfast in the ongoing voter registration drive. We must remain focused; by working together, we can protect the environment and achieve our goals. Indeed, we are the NPP, and the elephant is our winning emblem, said Justin Frimpong Kodua, General Secretary of the NPP, during a press conference in Accra.

On Monday, September 25, 2023, Mr. Alan Kyerematen, a longtime party member, declared his decision to leave the organization in order to run as an independent in the 2024 presidential election.

He claims that the NPP now bears almost little similarity to the group he joined as a founding member in 1992.

In a statement dated September 5, 2023, Alan Kyerematen, who finished third in the party’s special delegates conference on August 26, announced his choice to withdraw from the NPP Presidential primary scheduled for November 4.

He gave two reasons for withdrawing from the race: the intimidation of his agents and the perception that the campaign has been rigged to favor one of the contenders.
