Sarah Adwoa Safo, a former Member of Parliament(MP) for Dome-Kwabenya, has called the NPP Election Review Committee, which was formed to investigate the 2024 election defeat and is led by Prof. Mike Oquaye, a “bogus” group.
The Prof. Mike Oquaye Committee was created solely to disqualify a specific candidate and create space for a new presidential candidate, according to the former lawmaker who lost her position in the party’s 2024 primary.
According to Adwoa Safo, the Committee is not credible enough to perform well.
“A very bogus committee. A committee that is put together and it’s an intentional committee put together just to make sure that we find certain facts and push out certain candidates away from the candidacy so that you can bring your own, you call that a credible fact-finding committee?” she questioned.
In an interview with JoyNews on March 20, 2025, the former gender minister stated that Prof. Mike Oquaye is conflicted and would not provide an impartial report.
She recommended that such a fact-finding group should be led by an independent individual.
“If Prof. Mike Oquaye thinks that he has integrity, he has credibility, I want the first page of his fact-finding report, why his son Mike Oquaye Jnr lost his seat, he should give us a detailed report on that.
“If he is able to do it and do it with the needed integrity, without biases and prejudices and with transparency, I will take any report finding that he puts in there against Dr. Bawumia, other than that, the report will not work in this party.
“Your backyard is burning and you think the best person to lead a fact-finding committee like that, that constituency included, will do a thorough job for you? Why don’t you go for an independent person? There are other credible members, I am attacking the chair not other members, couldn’t we have found anybody else?” she justified.
Adwoa Safo went on to say that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) former vice president and presidential candidate in the 2024 general elections, will return to the party in the 2028 general elections.
According to her, Dr. Bawumia is sold as a diligent worker who deserves to be president.
“We are bringing Bawumia back,” She stated on Thursday, March 20 on Joy News.
“Everyone deserves a second chance,” she stated, adding that Dr. Bawumia is the best person and that we would continue to market him.
“Nobody should come and tell us that we shouldn’t bring Dr. Bawumia,” she emphasized, “because nobody is God.We will have time for Dr. Bawumia, just as we did for Nana Akufo-Addo.
