In the Ejisu by-election, Mr. Kwabena Boateng of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has won with 27,782 votes, or 55.8% of the total number of votes cast.

Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, the Independent Candidate, was his closest opponent with 21,534 votes, or 43.3% of the total.

Mr. Boateng prevailed in a closely contested race that followed the death on March 7, 2024, of Member of Parliament and Deputy Finance Minister Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, despite a low voter participation.

Strong campaigning was seen in the by-election, particularly between Mr. Boateng and Mr. Aduomi, the latter of whom stood as an Independent Candidate after serving as the constituency’s three-term NPP MP.

Allegations of vote buying made against Boateng’s campaign throughout the campaign prompted the Electoral Commission to look into the matter and take appropriate action.

In reaction to these claims, the Commission fired two temporary employees after it was said in a widely shared video that they had accepted bribes during the Ejisu by-election.

Notable other contenders in the contest were Atakora Joseph with 23 votes (0.0%), Joseph Agyemang, the Independent Candidate, with 222 votes (0.2%), Beatrice Boakye of the Liberal Party with 140 votes (0.3%), and Esther Osei of the Convention People’s Party with 0.2%.
