Following a gallant victory in today’s semi-final, Opoku Ware School, fondly referred to as OWASS, made considerable progress toward winning their third National Science and Maths Quiz championship.
In the second semi-final of the day, Santasi, which won the coveted NSMQ championship in 1997 and 2002, put on a remarkable exhibition of skill that was too much for their rivals Pope John Senior High School & Minor Seminary and Prempeh College.
Opoku Ware School won a tightly contested encounter by a narrow margin of two points, sealing their place in the final match for the title.
Prempeh College got 36 points, Pope John’s also got 36 points whiles Opoku Ware won with 38 points.
These elite institutions’ remarkable knowledge and skill were on display in this gripping semifinal. After winning, Opoku Ware School will face Achimota School, another two-time winner, in the eagerly awaited final matchup, which will determine who will win the coveted NSMQ championship.
On October 6, 2023, the National Science & Math Quiz’s 30th Anniversary edition began.
This year’s NSMQ is being held in two different cities as an exciting highlight of the 30th Anniversary celebrations: KNUST in Kumasi and National Theatre in Accra.
It has never happened before for the National Championship to transcend two regions, according to history. The four preliminary rounds of the competition will take place at KNUST, and the grand finale will be held at the National Theatre.
The #NSMQ2023 grand finale has been postponed to October 31, 2023 to make way for Ga Manye’s funeral.
The grand final had initially been scheduled to take place ON October 24, 2023 at the National Theatre in Accra.
But the organisers, Primetime Limited has agreed to postponed it since there is a ban on noise making, trading and other public activities within that period as part of tradition in line with the final funeral rites of the late Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaedru III.
