Obuasi Circuit Court remands 13 illegal miners

The Obuasi Circuit Court has remanded 13 individuals arrested for illegal mining into police custody for two weeks.

The illegal miners appeared before the Obuasi Circuit Court the first time on February 13,2025, presided over by His Honour Mark Tairima Diboro.

The court remanded them into custody for two weeks to allow for further investigations.

The accused persons are facing charges of illegal mining aiding and abetting.

They are said to have been mining at Adaase-Kwapea in the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

Speaking to the media, council for the complainant, Osei Akomeah revealed that the court also issued a bench warrant to bring other three accused persons who ought to have appeared before the court but refused for them to appear at the next hearing.

He further indicated that the court asked that investigations should be made to bring other corporates to books.

Nana Gyamerah Kwabena Yiakwan II, Adaase-Kwapea Hene who led the arrest of the miners expressed pleasure in the court’s decision and expressed confidence that justice will prevail.

Background

Nana Gyamerah Kwabena Yiakwan II on February 8,2025 got a report of galamsey operations on the land and reported to the police for their arrest.

The case has been adjourned to February 27 for further hearing.
