Six people have been charged by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) with payroll fraud and corruption offenses at the Tamale High Court in the Northern Region.
The defendants, Osman Issahaku, Mohammed Yusif Jay, Sammy Suuk, Stafford Korletey Azudey-Barres, Yakubu Tahidu, and Abdulai Abukari Sadic, are charged with 17 counts of corruption, allegedly resulting in financial loss for the state.
National Security made the recommendation that led to this prosecution, alleging that Yakubu Tahidu was still paid while working for another government organization even though he was no longer a teacher. It is alleged that the other defendants intentionally enabled or failed to stop the illegal payments.
Former Balogu M/A JHS teacher Yakubu Tahidu is charged with unlawfully collecting salary after leaving his position to work at the Microfinance and Small Loans Center (MASLOC).
Sammy Suuk, a Schools Improvement Support Officer, and Abdulai Abukari Sadic, the Yendi Municipal IPPD Coordinator, are charged with helping the first accused validate his wage.
Despite being transferred to a different school, Mohammed Yusif Jay, former headteacher of Balogu M/A JHS, is accused of approving the wages.
The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department Assistant Chief Accounts Technician Stafford Korletey Azudey-Barres is accused of helping to handle fraudulent payments.
The current headteacher of Balogu M/A JHS, Osman Issahaku, is charged with continuing to justify the irregular payments.
