As of July 13, 2022, more than 16.9 million Ghanaians had already registered for the Ghana Card, according to the National Identification Authority (NIA).

Prof. Kenneth Agyeman Attafuah, executive secretary of the NIA, is dissatisfied that some people have turned to getting police statements to have their cards reissued even though they have already been registered.

On Tuesday, Attafuah announced on the Asaase Breakfast Show, “We have as of 13 July, registered 16,936,934 Ghanaians [16 years and above] onto the national identity register, and we have printed the cards of 16,743,832 Ghanaians” (19 July).

“16,674,131 have been issued,we have 895,140 uncollected cards as of July 13th.It is crucial to compare this to the pre-February 2017 period, when just 4,554,520 Ghanaians were listed between July of 2008 and February of 2017,” he said to sit-in host Benjamin Offei-Addo monitored by Ghanatodayonline.com.

Only 2,719,425 cards had been printed and 900,000 had been distributed between 2008 and February of 2017,Attafuah claimed.
