The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed public hospitals across the country to adopt sustainable measures for managing and maintaining medical equipment.
The directive followed the Committee’s review of the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report, which cited several health facilities for allowing essential medical equipment to remain broken down for years.
According to the audit findings, critical machines such as MRI scanners, CT scanners, ultrasound systems, mammography units, and cath labs have been out of service for a long period, particularly at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Ridge Hospital, and Ho Regional Hospital.
Dr. Ayensu-Danquah also disclosed that government is taking steps to install cath labs in key hospitals nationwide, with contracts already awarded to manufacturers to supply and deploy the equipment soon.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Finance, Hon. Ampem Nyarko, appeared before the Committee alongside officials from the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) and the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA).
The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Alhaji Sulemana Yussif, also appeared with officials from the Minerals Commission to respond to queries in the 2025 Auditor-General’s Report. He reiterated that small-scale mining remains the preserve of Ghanaians and cautioned against illegal operations.
