The fourth group of ministers nominated by President John Mahama has been accepted by Parliament after being vetted by the Appointments Committee.

Following the committee’s recommendation of the nominations of Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, MP for Wa; Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, MP for Nanton; Samuel Nartey George, MP for Ningo-Prampram; Kofi Adams, MP for Buem; and Joseph Bukari Nikpe, MP for Saboba, the approval was granted.

On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, Second Deputy Speaker Andrew Asiamah Amoako presided over the House’s debate of the motion for approval.

Under the leadership of Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Caucus supported four nominees but disagreed with Samuel Nartey George’s appointment as the Communications Minister-designate.

He had previously criticized Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo and former President Akufo-Addo, which raised worries, they said.

The Majority Caucus, on the other hand, disagreed with this line of thinking and was disappointed by the Minority’s resistance.

They maintained that the objections against the Ningo-Prampram MP were unsupportable and that his nomination was warranted.

After hours of discussion, the Minority Caucus insisted on putting Sam George through a secret ballot even though they recognized the qualifications of the other four contenders.

But in the end, they chose not to cast a ballot, therefore a majority decision would decide his destiny.

The Minority chose not to participate in the process, and the Second Deputy Speaker subsequently approved the appointments by voice vote.

The following ministers have been approved, along with their corresponding portfolios: Kofi Adams, Minister of Sports and Recreation; Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology; Samuel Nartey George, Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations; Joseph Bukari Nikpe, Minister of Transportation.
