Ghana’s Parliament has approved a budget of GHS357,105,639,080 for the 2026 fiscal year, allowing the government to finance its activities and development initiatives from January 1 to December 31, 2026.
The authorization came after the enactment of the Appropriation (No. 2) Act, 2025, which has now been signed by the president.
According to the Act, the authorized funds will be taken from the Consolidated Fund and other public resources and distributed to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as specified in the First Schedule of the law.
The funds are aimed at aiding the provision of vital public services and the execution of important development projects across the country.
The Act also permits designated government agencies to keep and use a sum of GHS18,180,717,613 from their internally generated funds (IGF) throughout the year.
This clause focuses on enhancing operational effectiveness and bolstering resource management throughout the public sector.
According to the law, the Controller and Accountant-General is required to disburse funds based on warrants issued by the Finance Minister, a system intended to guarantee accountability, transparency, and the prompt allocation of public funds.
The approval of the 2026 budget underscores the government’s dedication to careful financial management and efficient resource distribution as it prepares the economy for growth and advancement in the coming year.
