Members of the Majority and Minority Caucuses argued over Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s vetting during an Appointments Committee meeting, escalating tensions.

When the minority suggested moving the vetting to Friday due to worries about the day’s activities, the dispute broke out. The majority of members, however, disagreed with this recommendation and insisted that the vetting proceed as planned.

Majority members broke microphones and tables to avoid any delays as the argument turned into a full-scale fight.

The Majority persisted in their position, claiming that the vetting should continue uninterrupted and that the committee was operating according to its predetermined agenda.

As tensions increased, the scenario led to an increased security presence in the meeting room. The Minority remained steadfast in its position, stating that just four nominations should be vetted and that the meeting should be adjourned for the day.

The committee’s work came to a halt as the conflict between the two factions persisted since neither side was willing to compromise on its stances.

Tables and microphones at the Conference hall have been destroyed. The Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga used the opportunity to apologize to Ghanaians and the general public.

“I will like to use this opportunity to apologize to all Ghanaians watching the proceedings home on TVs and online, the tables and microphones have been destroyed to the extent that we can’t continue with the vetting today. The Technical department of the Parliament have closed for the day and even if they were here I don’t thing they can get new microphones to fix for us to use.”

“We will continue the vetting of the ministerial nominees tomorrow from the Speakers Hall and I will like to advice all nominees not to bring any crowd because that office is small and it cannot accommodate more audience. We will continue the vetting tomorrow morning at 9am thanks” Mahama Ayariga added.
