Ernest Frimpong, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Amenfi East, was detained by the Ghana Police Service due to remarks he made recently.

Mr. Frimpong was seen speaking at a forum full of people thought to be illegal miners in a video that went viral on social media. He allegedly advised the attendees to fend off military soldiers who claimed to be patrolling the area and trying to forcibly remove them.

The head of the Regional Security Council and Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah was also present at the forum.

Ghanatodayonline has learned that on Wednesday, June 12, the parliamentary candidate wrote his statement at the Tarkwa police station.

In an interview with Joy FM’s Top Story, Frederick Korankye, the Chairman of the Municipal Security Council for Amenfi East, confirmed the arrest and said, “He is seeking bail, he went there with a lawyer to grant him a police inquiry bail in the meantime and then maybe he will be reporting himself the next day.

” It is still unclear what charges have been brought against the aspiring legislator from Amenfi East. Ernest Frimpong has already denied the allegations, stating that he did not support illegal mining or encourage miners to fight military personnel. The MCE further stressed that his intentions were misrepresented.
