Following the death of a military officer due to a land dispute in Millennium City in Kasoa, Central Region, one person has been arrested.
Presently under police custody, the suspect is supporting the Ghana Police Service’s investigation into the incident.
The dead was shot on Tuesday, April 30 at approximately 4:20 p.m., according to a police statement released on Wednesday, May 1.
The police statement further stated that in order to look into the matter further, the police leadership is working with the Ghanaian Armed Forces leadership in coordination.
“The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man in connection with a shooting incident which occurred at Millennium City, Kasoa, in the Central Region, leading to the death of a soldier.”
“Preliminary Police investigation has established that the suspect, Benlord Ababio allegedly shot the soldier at Millenum City Kasoa on Tuesday, 30th April 2024, at about 4:20 pm. The victim sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Mother and Child Hospital at Kasoa for medical attention. However, he was later pronounced dead by the medical authorities.”
The military officer passed away on Tuesday, April 30, while his two companions barely survived due to the property dispute.
The fatal event transpired when the departed and his associates challenged workers on a parcel of land they asserted was theirs.
Tensions increased as a result of the Millennium City District Police Command’s inability to mediate the conflict.

According to an official statement, the suspect in the soldier’s death connected to a property dispute at Millenium City, a Kasoa suburb, is not a member of the National Security staff.
According to an initial police investigation, on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at approximately 4:20 p.m., the soldier was shot by the suspect, Benlord Ababio, at Millenium City Kasoa.
Previous reports indicate that the suspect works for the National Security Agency.
The public should ignore such news, according to a statement released by the Ministry of National Security on Wednesday, May 1.
“The Ministry wishes to put on record that the suspect, Benlord Ababio, who’s currently in police custody, is not a staff of the Ministry of National Security.”
“The public is therefore urged to disregard any news item that portrays the suspect as a staff of the Ministry of National Security,” the statement said.
