Police arrest suspect for unlawful possession of gun

The Ghana Police Service, through the Special Support Unit to the IGP, has detained an individual for illegal gun possession after receiving tips that he had an assault rifle and planned to sell it in Accra within the Greater Accra Region.

Suspect Abdulai Ibrahim was apprehended on December 29, 2025, at Sodom and Gomorrah in Accra after he planned to meet potential buyers for the sale of the firearm.

Initial inquiries suggest that the suspect displayed a box with a CZ rifle, which he proposed for sale at a price of GHC 35,000, and also acknowledged having earlier delivered multiple pump-action firearms to people in the Northern Region.

The suspect further indicated that the weapons were reportedly obtained from an arms dealer active near UTC in Accra, leading to continuous investigations aimed at identifying and apprehending everyone involved in the illegal weaponry trade.

The firearm was obtained by the police at the time of the arrest and has been secured for additional investigation.

The individual is presently in police custody aiding inquiries, as attempts persist to break down the organization linked to the illegal possession and dissemination of firearms.

The Ghana Police Service, through the Special Support Unit to the IGP, has arrested a suspect for unlawful possession of a firearm following intelligence that he was in possession of an assault rifle and intended to sell it in Accra in the Greater Accra Region

.Suspect Abdulai Ibrahim, was arrested on 29th December 2025 at Sodom and Gomorrah in Accra after he arranged to meet prospective buyers to transact the sale of the weapon.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect presented a box containing a CZ rifle, which he offered for sale at a cost of GHC 35,000, and further admitted to having previously transported several pump-action guns to individuals in the Northern Region.

The suspect also disclosed that the firearms were allegedly sourced from an arms dealer operating around UTC in Accra, prompting ongoing investigations to trace and arrest all persons connected to the illegal arms trade.

Police retrieved the firearm during the arrest, and same has since been secured for further investigation.

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting investigations, as efforts continue to dismantle the network involved in the unlawful possession and distribution of firearms.
