The Ghana Police Service, via the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector General of Police, has apprehended a suspect linked to a daylight armed robbery at a jewellery store in Adabraka, Accra, where GH₵7.5 million was taken on 2nd November 2024.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, December 31, the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, referred to the arrest as an important milestone in the investigation.
DCOP Donkor stated that the suspect, named Ali Mohammed, also referred to as “Bawasam,” was arrested on November 20, 2025, at a hospital in Ashaiman, where he was seeking medical care.
Initial inquiries, as stated by the police, suggest that “the suspect and his partners, equipped with AK-47 assault rifles, blocked a vehicle transporting funds from a jewellery deal to the bank.” They discharged several rounds to scatter bystanders, wounding the driver, then escaped with the money.
The police stated they are persisting in their attempts to apprehend the other collaborators and reclaim the stolen funds.

The Ghana Police Service, through the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector General of Police, has arrested a suspect in connection with a daylight armed robbery attack on a jewellery shop at Adabraka in Accra, during which an amount of GH₵7.5 million was stolen on 2nd November 2024.
The robbery involved proceeds from a gold transaction that were being conveyed to a bank when the attack occurred. Following months of sustained intelligence-led operations, the suspect, Salim Mohammed, also known as Fariwata, was arrested on 20th November 2025 at a hospital in Ashaiman, where he had gone to seek medical attention.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, together with his accomplices, who were armed with AK47 assault rifles, intercepted the victim’s vehicle and fired multiple shots to disperse members of the public. In the course of the attack, the driver of the vehicle was injured, after which the suspects made away with the cash.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting investigations, while intensive efforts are underway to trace and arrest the remaining accomplices and recover the stolen money.
The Ghana Police Service appeals to members of the public with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the other suspects to promptly report to the nearest Police Station, as investigations continue.
