On March 27, 2023, the Police in the Western Region, acting on information, detained three suspects in Japa, close to Wassa Akropong, for unlawful possession of weapons and actions of vigilantism.
Following an inquiry into a widely shared social media video in which one individual was seen shooting at another and threatening violence, the three suspects—Godfred Appiah alias Nana Kobina Gyan, Isaac Amoako alias Nana Owusu, and Theophilus Yeboah alias Fire—were detained.
Godfred Appiah, the primary suspect who was seen firing the weapon in the footage, was originally taken into custody as a result of the Police operation. Theophilus Yeboah and Isaac Amoako, who were identified as the supplier and proprietor of the aforementioned business by the inquiry, were detained as a result of additional police investigation.
Following a check of the accused person Isaac Amoako’s home, four pump action shotguns and twenty-four (24) AAA-refilled cartridges were found. He was unable to provide documentation for three of the firearms, though.
The suspects were presented to the Tarkwa Circuit Court today, March 29, 2023, and were ordered into prison with a summons to appear on April 6, 2023.
Other participants in the case are being sought after for capture in order to face justice.
