The Ghana Police Service’s Greater Accra Regional Command filed an application with the Accra High Court for an injunction to stop the organizers of the “#DumsorMustStop” the demonstration from holding their event.

The Accra Region Police Command encouraged the demonstration organizers to think about moving the intended protest location, and that’s why the action was filed on May 20.

The police asked the protest organizers to reschedule the event, which is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024, as part of their appeal.

However, the organizers have turned down their request.

Subsequently, the police filed a motion requesting that the court force the event organizers to completely cease operations.

“Take Notice that this Honourable Court shall be moved by Counsel for and on behalf of the Applicant herein praying this Honourable Court for an order prohibiting the respondents from holding an intended picketing fixed for 25th May 2024 at the Revolution Square, upon the grounds contained in the accompanying affidavit and for such further orders) as this Honourable Court may deem fit,” the action filed on May 20, 2024, indicated.

Actress Yvonne Nelson claims the sporadic power outages, referred to as “dumsor” in the general public, are hurting her career and that she had organized a protest of a similar nature in 2015.

To inform them of the planned demonstration, she and her colleagues met with the Ghana Police Service.

But during a conference, the police expressed opposition to the suggested protest path, especially to its intended destination of Revolution Square.

The police contend that the demonstration was scheduled to stop at midnight and that it was in close proximity to Jubilee House, a designated security zone.
