Kumasi saw violence during a statewide protest against the Electoral Commission (EC) organized by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

At the Commission’s regional headquarters, there had been altercations between the police and some protestors.

This transpired when the furious mob was stopped from accompanying the NDC executives as they went into the regional office to deliver their petition to the head of the Ashanti Regional EC as part of the Enough Is Enough demonstration.

When things got physical, there was a brawl that broke down barriers and shattered the glass doors of the office.

It is said that three more people were arrested in the midst of gunfire, and a policewoman was hurt in the process.

“As a matter of fact, I was hiding somewhere when I heard the gunfire. When I entered, I saw that another man had been taken into custody,” Ghanatodayonline.com was informed by Samuel Sarkodie who witnessed the incident.

As several NDC executives meet with the commissioner inside the building, away from the mayhem outside, tensions are still high.

Outside, supporters are yelling for the police to let them into the building.

In the meantime, the police are refuting allegations that there was a shooting at the Kumasi EC office and state that “no demonstrator has been injured by the Police.”

Some protesters, however, were stopped when they violated the agreement by breaking through into the EC office’s compound.
