Chief Inspector Samuel Krah’s lawsuit against the Inspector-General of Police and the State regarding his elevation was dismissed by the Kumasi High Court.
In a ruling on Friday, June 14, 2024, the court chaired by Justice Kwasi Anokyi Gyimah declared that the Chief Inspector was not automatically promoted merely because he had earned a higher degree.
“After the trial, the Court held inter alia that, the plaintiff has failed to prove his claim on the preponderance of probability. The Plaintiff’s attainment of higher academic qualification is not entitled to promotion by reason only that academic qualification. Thus, depending on the mode of recruitment, an entry to the Police Academy is by competitive examination or by special recommendation in line with Police Service Regulation,” the judgement noted.
The court went on to say, “The Court therefore encourages the Plaintiff to continue writing the entrance examination as he may find favour in the exams in future”
Despite having served between 25 and 30 years in the police force, the Plaintiff claimed that the Police Administration had given his junior colleagues the same special amnesty and promoted them to higher ranks, but had denied him the same treatment to help him gain admission to the Police Academy and advance to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
