Accra’s Flower Pot Interchange has been commissioned by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
This major infrastructure project intends to improve connectivity and passenger travel times by reducing traffic congestion on the Tema Motorway’s North and South corridors.
An 802-meter dual carriageway viaduct with asphaltic concrete pavement, a 140-meter ramp from Shiashie onto the viaduct towards Airport Hills, and an 80-meter ramp connecting the viaduct to the Motorway towards Tema are all characteristics of the Flower Pot Interchange.
The project also includes pedestrian walkways, road furniture like traffic signals and streetlights, and a new road that will pass through the old tunnel at East Legon.
Deoke Consult Ltd. was hired as the consultant for the project, which was awarded to China Railway No. 5 Engineering Ghana Limited in March 2017.
The contract had a 93-month length and was funded by GHS 677,839,999.5 from the Ghanaian government and Afrexim Bank.
President Akufo-Addo challenged stakeholders to make sure the interchange fulfilled its goal during his remarks at Tuesday’s commissioning event in Accra.
Additionally, he urged all parties involved to protect the interchange in the future.
