President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo congratulated Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the newly elected president of Nigeria, on his victory in the recently concluded elections.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ‘s candidate Bola Tinubu won the hotly contested vote on February 25, 2023.
“On behalf of the Ghanaian people and their Government, I extend warm congratulations to the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on his victory in the Nigerian presidential election of Saturday, 25th February,” President Akufo-Addo posted on his Facebook page.
He voiced the expectation that the incoming Nigerian president would strengthen the close ties between Ghana and Nigeria.
“It is my expectation that the President-elect would continue in the stead of past Nigerian leaders, and deepen even further the strong friendship that exists between Nigeria and Ghana, which has been based on a shared agenda of freedom, development, security, progress and prosperity,” President Akufo-Addo added.
Tinubu triumphed over rival candidates Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.
Each of the three front-runners for president captured 12 states, while Kwankwaso only got Kano State.
Atiku, a former vice president and his nearest rival, lost to Tinubu by a margin of no less than 1.8 million ballots.
