President Akufo-Addo fires Director-General of GES

Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has been fired.

This was stated in a letter from the President’s Office dated Monday, October 17, 2022.

A copy of the letter written and signed by Nana Asante Bediatuo, Secretary to the President, informing Prof. Opoku-Amankwa of the termination of his appointment, reads as follows: “The Ministry of Education has informed this Office that the exigencies that required your skills and expertise as Director-General of the Ghana Education Service do not exist any longer.”

Prof. Opoku-Amankwa was a KNUST employee who was being seconded to the GES.

Consequently, he has been requested to resume his duties at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

In a letter dated Monday, October 17, 2022, the Office of the President declared that Prof. Opoku-appointment Amankwa’s had been terminated.

Although Prof. Opoku-Amankwa was appointed in April 2017, explicit mention was made of his secondment from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in January 2021. (KNUST).
