There have apparently been two nominations made by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for appointment to the Ghanaian Supreme Court.
The candidates are Justice Sophia Rosetta Bernasko Essah, a justice of the Court of Appeal, and Prof. Richard Frimpong Oppong, a legal scholar and fellow of the Ghana Academy of Sciences, according to a report by Ghanatodayonline.com.
The Judicial Council granted their candidacy for appointment to the nation’s highest court, and the president then nominated them.
During the Governing Board of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Center’s inauguration on Tuesday, July 15, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo revealed that the two nominees had been approved by the Judicial Council.
Professor Frimpong Oppong and Judge Bernasko Essah will now be brought before the Ghanaian Parliament for approval by the House Appointments Committee.
The number of Supreme Court Justices would rise from 15 to 17 if their appointments are accepted.
