Matilda Asante-Asiedu has been named the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) second deputy governor by President John Mahama.
The appointment demonstrates the government’s dedication to introducing seasoned experience to the country’s financial sector and was made in accordance with Section 17 of the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002 (Act 612).
This was stated in a statement that was issued by the spokesperson for Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the president and minister of government communications.
The announcement claims that Mrs. Asante-Asiedu brings to her new position an exceptional portfolio of credentials and expertise.
She has an MA in Journalism Studies from Cardiff University (2005) and an MBA in Marketing from GIMPA Business School (2021).
Her educational background includes degrees in Politics and Public Affairs Reporting from the International Institute of Journalism in Berlin (2000) and Journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (1997).
Her credentials in the financial industry were further solidified when she most recently obtained certification as a Chartered Executive Banker (CIB-Ghana, 2024).
During her tenure as Group Head of Retail Banking at Access Bank Ghana PLC, she showed remarkable leadership in promoting innovation and expansion in the retail financial services industry.
Through executive programs at prominent international universities such as Oxford University’s Said Business School (2023), Wharton School (2015), and Marquette University’s Les Aspin Centre (2003), Mrs. Asante-Asiedu has further expanded her skills.
As the Bank of Ghana continues to tackle important issues like currency stability, inflation management, and banking sector reforms, this appointment comes at a vital juncture for Ghana’s economy.
Mrs. Asante-Asiedu is a great asset in establishing the central bank’s policies and guaranteeing financial stability because of her vast experience in banking and corporate leadership.
