President John Dramani Mahama has named Dr. Ransford Anertey Abbey the Ghana Cocoa Board’s (COCOBOD) Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
In compliance with Section 12(2) of the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 1984 (P.N.D.C.L. 81) and Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution, the nomination was formally announced in a letter dated January 21, 2025.
“Dr. Abbey’s appointment is effective immediately and will remain in place pending the constitutionally required advice of the COCOBOD Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission,” the letter, signed by Secretary to the President Dr. Callistus Mahama, reads.
President Mahama expressed confidence in Dr. Abbey’s abilities to lead the organization successfully and congratulated him on his new position.
It is expected that Dr. Abbey’s appointment will give COCOBOD, a crucial body in Ghana’s cocoa sector, fresh vitality and strategic direction.
The activities of COCOBOD, a pillar of the country’s agricultural and economic growth, are essential to maintaining the standard of living for millions of farmers and generating income for the government.
