The late Pope Francis was praised by President John Dramani Mahama, who called him a “good man” who was “personable and humane, with a good soul.”
Mahama wrote the poignant tribute, which was published in the book of condolences at the Apostolic Nunciature in Accra on Friday, April 25.
The gesture was made in memory of the late pope, whose passing was declared by the Vatican on Monday, April 21.
Pope Francis has away at the age of 88. He was well-known for his humility and fervent support of social justice, peace, and interfaith harmony. On Saturday, April 26, his funeral is set to occur at the Vatican.
On Friday, April 25, a government delegation led by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa attended a solemn mass at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra in honor of Pope Francis.
Religious leaders from a variety of Christian denominations, including a representative of the National Chief Imam, were also present.
