The government’s 24-Hour Economy policy, according to President John Dramani Mahama, has evolved from a campaign slogan to a comprehensive national policy with the goal of increasing productivity and opening up more opportunities for Ghanaians.
Speaking on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the policy’s official launching in Accra, President Mahama said the concept, which attracted national attention in 2024, is now more than just a hopeful vision; it is a well-thought-out plan to boost economic growth and enhance people’s lives.
“We have moved from slogan to strategy today,” he declared, In 2024, the idea of a 24-hour economy captured national attention. It became a slogan of hope, a symbol that change was necessary and possible.” he said
He emphasized that how effectively the policy is implemented will be the true test. The President declared, “This launch is not the end, but the beginning of a massive national mobilization.”
In response to widespread skepticism regarding the proposal, President Mahama clarified that the 24-Hour Economy encompasses more than just extended working hours. Instead, it emphasizes raising productivity, promoting exports, and fostering inclusive growth in important industries.
“The 24+ Agenda is not just about extending working hours. It is about unleashing productivity, expanding opportunities, and accelerating exports through well-structured and inclusive interventions,” Mahama said.
A key component of the Mahama administration’s economic development program, the 24-Hour Economy policy is anticipated to boost international competitiveness, attract investment, and generate jobs.
