President John Dramani Mahama’s “good neighborliness” tour, which aims to improve diplomatic relations with neighboring nations, saw his arrival in Burkina Faso today.
He was welcomed at the airport by Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the head of Burkina Faso’s military.
In a subsequent discussion behind closed doors, the two leaders talked about significant issues such diplomatic ties, economic cooperation, and regional security.
The three countries that recently joined the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) and left the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)—Niger and Mali—are included in President Mahama’s tour.
Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger’s exit from ECOWAS is mostly due to a breakdown in trust, President Mahama stated in his remarks.
Although it will take time, he acknowledged that efforts must be taken to restore robust regional cooperation and emphasized the significance of restoring confidence between the nations.
