President John Dramani Mahama has declared his goal to drastically cut the number of presidential staff members in his administration.
He emphasized the necessity of a lean and effective administration to ensure wise use of public resources in his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in his second term, which was delivered in Parliament on Thursday, February 27.
President Mahama claims that prior administrations have experienced an increase in the number of presidential staff members, which resulted in wasteful spending.
“We cannot continue to run a government where the cost of administration outweighs the benefits to the people. My government will take decisive steps to reduce the number of presidential staffers to promote efficiency and accountability,” he stated.
He went on to say that the reduction will increase productivity rather than jeopardize the efficacy of governance.
“A smaller, more competent team is what we need to drive our development agenda. We must cut down on bureaucracy and focus on delivering results that positively impact the lives of Ghanaians,” Mahama said.
