A seven-member National Economic Dialogue (NED) Planning Committee, led by Dr. Ishmael Yamson, has been established, according to President Mahama’s announcement.

Ernest De-Graft Egyir, Mohammed Samara, Nelly Mireku, Anthony Sarpong, Professor John Gatsi, and Dr. K.Y. Amoako are among the members.

On Sunday, January 26, 2025, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting Spokesperson to the President, made this announcement in a statement.

A forum for discussion and consultation on the nation’s urgent development issues will be provided by the National Economic Dialogue (NED).

Additionally, policy trade-offs will be discussed, and consensus on the reforms required to turn Ghana into a robust, inclusive, and high-growth economy will be developed.

The statement states that the government wants the National Economic Dialogue to accomplish three main goals: Educate stakeholders and Ghanaians about the actual state of the country’s economy; create a domestic fiscal consolidation program to direct the national budget; and identify important structural reforms and policy priorities that are necessary to restart the economy.

In addition, the committee has four weeks to provide a report outlining the following tasks:

  1. Agenda Setting: Develop a comprehensive agenda aligned with the objectives of the NED.
  2. Speaker and Panellist Coordination: Identify and invite experts in economics, energy, and agriculture to participate as speakers and panellists.
  3.  Logistics Management: Venue selection, transportation, and other logistical needs.
  4. Session Facilitation: Organize and facilitate panel discussions, workshops, and breakout sessions. Identify and invite moderators and rapporteurs.
  5. Documentation and Reporting: Record the proceedings and prepare a detailed report, including policy recommendations.
  6. Communications Plan: Design and implement a communication strategy to promote and disseminate information about the dialogue.
