COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno was sworn in as the next Inspector General of Police (IGP) by President John Dramani Mahama.
Dr. George Akuffo Dampare was removed from office on Thursday, and the ceremony was held at the Jubilee House on Friday, March 14.
The Ghana Police Service underwent a major upheaval as a result of the decision, which was revealed on Thursday. Although Dr. Dampare’s termination has not been officially explained, sources indicate that it is a part of a larger restructuring initiative meant to change the country’s law enforcement agency’s operational orientation and leadership.
After being named IGP in 2021, Dr. Dampare was instrumental in putting important policing changes into effect.
The Ghana Police Service launched a number of programs under his direction with the goal of enhancing public safety and trust. Increased community involvement, internal disciplinary actions, and an emphasis on professionalizing the service were hallmarks of his tenure.
He has been lauded by security experts and analysts with helping to lower crime and increase accountability inside the force.
Expectations for the future of Ghanaian policing are still high as COP Christian Yohuno takes on the post of IGP.
