President John Dramani Mahama arrived in Kumasi, Ashanti Region’s Central Business District of Adum to evaluate the damage caused by a large fire that destroyed hundreds of stores.
Early on Friday, March 21, the fire started, leaving many shopkeepers upset as they tried to save their wares.

Mahama visited the impacted traders and expressed his sympathy while promising to support them.
He emphasized the urgent need for aid to people who have lost their jobs and demanded a comprehensive probe into the fire’s origin.
In addition, he warned vendors not to cook in the marketplace because doing so increased the fire’s intensity.
Fueled by extremely combustible items kept in the stores, the fire spread quickly and was challenging for firemen to suppress.
Delays in response times and blocked access routes further hindered their operations.
Some merchants think the fire may have started because of continuous power disruptions, which they blamed for the catastrophe.
The traders welcomed Mahama’s visit and conveyed their appreciation for his support and concern.
