On Wednesday, February 18, President John Dramani Mahama visited two individuals injured in the Burkina Faso terrorist attack who are receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.
The survivors included Ghanaian tomato traders riding a truck that was attacked by armed bandits, who ordered the men off the truck and killed them before setting the vehicle on fire.
President Mahama, along with Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, expressed sympathy and assured them that the government would cover their bills.
The President, who had been in Takoradi earlier that morning on official business, rushed to the hospital as soon as his flight arrived to speak with the victims for firsthand details about the unfortunate event.
Seven Ghanaians who died in the incident have already been laid to rest, while the survivors have been safely brought back to their home by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
Everyone is receiving counselling along with the required support, while those who were injured are receiving medical attention.

A truck transporting tomato traders was caught in a terrorist attack in northern Burkina Faso, the Ghanaian government said on Sunday. The incident happened on Saturday, February 14, in the town of Titao, which is increasingly under siege from al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist groups.
In response to the reports, the Ministry of the Interior and National Security issued an official statement. The release was signed by Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister of the Interior and National Security. The material was deemed unsettling by the government. The number of people missing and the extent of the casualties are now being ascertained by officials.
“The Government of Ghana has received disturbing information from Burkina Faso of a truck carrying tomato traders from Ghana, which was caught in a terrorist attack in Titao,” the release said.
Local Burkinabe authorities have been contacted by Ghana’s Embassy in Burkina Faso. Securing the location and confirming the condition of the people inside the car are the main objectives. According to diplomatic sources, the unstable security situation close to the Malian border is impeding the identification procedure.
“The Ghana Embassy in Burkina Faso is liaising with officials of Burkina Faso to visit the attack site for details and identification of Ghanaians caught in the attack,” the statement added.
