Bernard Aboakoia Mensah and Albert Sefa Boampong have been proposed as the Municipal and District Chief Executives for Krachi East in the Oti Region and Offinso North in the Ashanti Region, respectively, by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The nomination complies with Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act of 2016 (Act 936) (as modified) and Article 243 (1) of the Constitution of 1992.
It was said in a press release that was published and signed by Dan Botwe, the minister of local government, decentralization, and rural development.
Following the nominations, the candidates would undergo confirmation by their local assemblies as part of the appointment procedure.
According to the statement, in order to be confirmed, the nominees must participate in the final stage of the procedure.
“In view of the above, you are kindly requested to liaise with the Regional Electoral Commission to conduct the confirmation process of the nominated chief executive,” it stated.
In terms of the Karachi East, Mr. Mensah’s nomination follows the MCE, Francis Kofi Okesu, who passed away unexpectedly in September 2022.
The municipality has been without an MCE as a result for eight months.
David Akwasi Asare Boakye, the Offinso North Assembly’s District Chief Executive, passed away five months before to Mr. Boampong’s nomination.
On November 7, 2022, he passed away at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
