Prof Frimpong-Boateng arrested by Office of the Special Prosecutor over galamsey report

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has approved a GH2 million bail for Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a former minister of environment, science, technology, and innovation.

This comes after the former minister received an invitation from the OSP to appear before it as part of an ongoing investigation into potential corruption-related issues linked to a study he spearheaded on small-scale mining activities in the nation.

The renowned cardiac surgeon has since been granted bail, according to a report by Ghanatodayonline.com.

 

The Office of the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, reportedly invited Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng to help with investigations after allegations were made in a report given to the president, according to a report published on Ghanatodayonline on May 4, 2023.

As chair of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Prof. Frimpong had suggested that some members of the New Patriotic Party and the administration had tried to undermine and obstruct his work.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng added that he had received the invitation in a timely manner and had expressed his willingness to assist in a statement dated May 4, 2023.

He mentioned how they called him “a person necessary for the investigation.”

Investigations into alleged corruption and crimes related to corruption in relation to the operations and spending of the disbanded Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) can assist shed light on these matters.
