Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Running Mate to Mr. John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged manufacturers and traders to get ready for the 24-hour economy that the NDC government envisions in an effort to reverse the economic downturn that has engulfed the nation.

She claims that the NDC’s 24-hour economy policy is a crucial part of their plan to save the nation from the consequences of the current administration’s economic incompetence.

She clarified that although the job shift system benefits businesses by offering tax breaks, lower tariff rates, and more productivity, it would increase employment and financial reliance for households and workers.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang called on all organizations to fully participate in the upcoming national 24-hour economy during her speech at a durbar of Chiefs in Denkyira Bibianiha in the Upper Denkyira East constituency of the Central Region today, marking the beginning of her regional campaign tour.

Her comments on the 24-hour economy came in response to Nana Appiah Kubi, the chief of Denkyira Bibianiha, who expressed worry about the high prevalence of poverty and unemployment in the area, which has left the young in the area in a bleak situation.

“The NDC will restore hope and rebuild the economy to meet the aspirations of the Ghanaians,” she said.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang, who had interacted with traders at the market in the town, noted that it is the duty of government to provide the needed support, including credit,to enable small scale enterprises to grow.

In addition, she said it was the duty of government to provide the necessary infrastructure that will facilitate the rapid development of areas such as Dunkwa and Denkyira.

She reminded the Chiefs that all the major infrastructure projects such as roads, health centres and schools were provided under the previous NDC governments, and therefore urged them vote massively for the NDC to continue it’s good works in the area.

“We have done it before, and you can trust us to do it again for you,’ she said.

Nana Appiah Kubi, Chief of Denkyira Bibianiha, in his remarks earlier, assured the NDC of the support of the Chiefs and people of the area “because we desire economic development of the area.”

He prayed for success for the NDC in the upcoming elections, and requested that the rehabilitation of the health facility in the area be prioritised when the NDC regains power.
