Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairperson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has that Prof. Ken Attafuah, the CEO of the National Identification Authority, quit.

He asserts that the NIA director cannot maintain his post since, despite all of his assurances, he has failed to make sure that every Ghanaian who requires the card can simply obtain one.

Asiedu Nketiah said in an interview on Adom FM that Prof. Ken Attuafah has consistently misled Ghanaians regarding the precise number of Ghana Cards his organization is able to issue.

“The NIA boss promised that by December 2022, they will have issued 2 million Ghana Cards, we are in March 2023, how many cards have they printed so far.

“Why is he still in his position? In any society, he would have announced his resignation. Because this is a serious problem and you promised Ghanaians things you knew you couldn’t deliver. Asiedu Nketiah remarked in Twi, “He put his credibility on the line by declaring he will be able to create the cards, hence the Ghana Card should be utilized to make a legislation.

He continued by saying it is unfortunate that the government wants to punish Ghanaians just because they are innocently missing out on the Ghana Card.

According to Prof. Ken Attafuah, if the NIA has all the resources required, it can print and issue at least 2 million Ghana Cards in six months. He made this claim in an interview with Citi TV.

“Within six months, without pressure or significant mobilization, we can match Ghanaians’ expectations. We are working at our own pace and can provide the 2 million cards,” he stated.

Even more, he continued, “500,000 cards can be printed by the NIA in just 11 days. Both the personnel and the printers are present.
