Queen Mothers Associations from each of Ghana’s sixteen regions have expressed interest in becoming familiar with the country’s legislative procedures.
The association’s members were given a tour of the House’s basic legislative procedures, its roles, and the ways in which traditional authorities and their communities can take part in parliamentary democracy.
In an engaging conversation, the queen mothers were also hosted by the Right Honorable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.
The President of the Association and Paramount Queen Mother of the Nkonya Traditional Area, Nana Otubea ll, emphasized the crucial role queen mothers play in the traditional governance systems while arguing for equitable representation of queen mothers in the National and Regional House of Chiefs. He continued by saying that the Affirmation Action Bill, which has not yet been approved by Parliament, aims to end this kind of discrimination and strengthen the rights of disadvantaged groups.
